Layout Shot Breakdown
I added Lickitung to the train. There train is also on a moving set, so Lickitung also had to constrained to the moving floor.
This shot was a CG takeover, it started with normal footage on set, before the camera turned away and everything becomes CG as the city is revealed. I animated the camera to be a fluid motion as if shot from a helicopter. I also placed the train tracks and the hero trees to make the composition as interesting as possible.
I added Pokémon partners to all the people on set, as well as the hero Snorlax and Machamp. The car Machamp directs is also full digital, and I added and animated the path.
This is a fully digital CG camera, I placed and animated the camera to simulate Tim’s point of view. I also added and placed the screen on the side of the building. I ingested the matchmove on the firefighter footage and added the Squirtles to the shot.
I assigned Pokémon partners for the people in the shot, and added them to the shot and made sure they stayed with their person for the entire shot.
I was in charge of planning and adding the Pokémon for the night market sequence. This involves going through every shot and making sure every actor had the same Pokémon parter throughout the sequence for consistency. I also had to make sure the Pokémon I added to the shot had a good variety so the same Pokémon didn’t repeat to much.
This sequence was shot in multiple places, so I had to reposition all the shots so they conformed to the same space. For the shots with Pikachu on the stool, I had to constrain him to the digital recreation of the stool, so he moved with the stool when it moved.
I ingested the matchmove and added Squirtle and Ditto to the shot
For this close up shot of pikachu, I had to conform all the matching shots to the same location they pikachu was sitting, so it didn’t look he as growing or shrinking between shots.
This shot required me to do an extremely close lineup of the edge of the pod. The pod was then replaced with a CG prop, and I Added Greninja grabbing the edge.
The roof of this shot had to be extended much higher than what it was on set. Lucy had to be added to a second camera, which could be risen up to the new digital ceiling and sway like a pendulum in Greninja’s mouth.
For Lucy, we had to digitally replace the Backpack Lucy wore with one that worked with Psyduck, which was constrained to Lucy’s back. I also added Pikachu and the greninjas, as well as set up a set extension for the long hallway. The long hallway shot was also a multiple camera setup, so we could do a digital push in past where the on set camera ended.
The Ground for these shots were replaced, so I had to make sure Tim, Lucy and Pikachu were still touching the ground as they ran. I also added the Torterras. The shot from behind was a flopped plate, so I had to take the animation and camera curves and flop them.
